Michael Floyd, a former chief magazine editor and columnist, is a master explainer with hands-on experience in XML, graphic design, Web development, and search engine optimization. Michael lends his editorial, graphic design and Web development skills to both individuals and companies wanting to create content rich, dynamic Web applications.
Michael, the first Editor-in-Chief of Web Techniques magazine and former Executive Editor of Dr. Dobb’s Journal has worked with some of the Web’s leading pioneers including Dr. Charles Goldfarb, the father of markup language. Michael’s books, his “Beyond HTML” column, and subsequent release of his Rocket XML Framework represent one of the first working proofs of dynamically generated content on the Web using XML and XSLT.
Through his company, BeyondHTML, Michael now focuses on hands-on training in Web technologies, and offers both public courses and on-site deliveries in more than 50 subjects. He has taught his Web development strategies to designers and developers at dozens of conferences, workshops, training classes, and on site at companies including Hewlett Packard, ADP, and Ericsson.
Prior to the Internet’s evolution, Michael began his career at NASA working on the Arpanet/Milnet, which later (with other collective pieces) became known as the Internet. There he developed the first NASA-wide BBS (a precursor, of sorts to the modern Web site) to share public-domain software developed by the agency.
